Norwegian Wood
Jonny Greenwood scored the music for the film adaptation of Norwegian Wood, literary embodiment of the disillusionment and loneliness of youth by Mr. Murakami.
One of the singular memories of my young adulthood is of reading this book during winter vacation at the newly constructed house my parents moved into while I had gone away to college. Our 3 story (including the basement) block of concrete and stucco was at the corner end lot of a housing community developed by hewing a forest of trees in the middle of nowhere in DeKalb County, Georgia. The windows to my room looked onto a tall canopy of old trees that been saved from the calamity of their neighbors, at least for that time being. For a kid raised by immigrant parents in Californian suburb, being there felt close to nature.
Devil In A New Dress
Put your hands to the constellations
The way you look should be a sin, you my sensation
I know I’m preaching to the congregation
We love Jesus but you done learned a lot from Satan
I mean a nigga did a lot of waiting
We ain't married but tonight I need some consummation
May the Lord forgive us
May the gods be with us
In that magic hour I seen good Christians
Make rash decisions
Oh she do it, what happened to religion?
Oh she lose it
She putting on her make up
She casually allure
Text message break ups, the casualty of tour
How she gone wake up and not love me no more?
I thought I was the ass hole, I guess it’s rubbing off
Hood phenomenon, the Lebron of rhyme
Hard to be humble when you stunting on a jumbotron
I’m looking at her like “this what you really wanted, huh?”
Why we argue anyway? Oh, I forgot, it's Summertime
When the sun go down it's the magic hour (the magic hour)
And outta all the colors that'll fill up the skies
You got green on your mind
I can see it in your eyes
Why you standing there with your face screwed up?
Don’t leave while you're hot that’s how Ma$e screwed up
Throwing shit around, the whole place screwed up
Maybe I should call Ma$e so he could pray for us
I hit the Jamaican spot, at the bar, take a seat
I ordered you jerk, she said “you are what you eat”
You see I always loved that sense of humor
But tonight you should have seen how quiet the room was
The Lyor Cohen of Dior Homme
That's "Dior Homme", not "Dior, homie"
The crib Scarface could it be more Tony?
You love me for me? Could you be more phony?
Put your hands to the constellations
The way you look should be a sin, you my sensation
Haven’t said a word, haven’t said a word
To me this evening
Cat got your tongue?
Lookin' at my bitch I bet she give your ass a bone
Lookin' at my wrist it'll turn your ass to stone
Stretch limousine, sippin' Rosé all alone
Double-headed monster with a mind of his own
Cherry red chariot, excess is just my character
All black tux, nigga shoes lavender
I never needed acceptance from all you outsiders
Had cyphers with Yeezy before his mouth wired
Before his jaw shattered climbin' up the Lord's ladder
We still speedin' runnin' signs like they don't matter
Uh, hater talkin' never made me mad
Never that when I'm in my favorite papertag
Therefore G4s at the Clearport
When it come to tools fool I'm a Pep Boy
When it came to dope I was quick to export
Never tired of ballin' so it's on to the next sport
New Mercedes sedan, they'll export
So many cars DMV though it was mail fraud
Different traps, I was gettin' mail from
Polk County, Jacksonville, rep Melbourne
Whole clique's appetite had tapeworms
Spinnin' Teddy Pendergrass vinyl as my jay burns
I shed a tear before the nights over
God bless the man I put this ice over
Gettin' 2Pac money twice over
Still a real nigga, red coogi sweater, dice roller
I'm makin' love to the angel of death
Catchin' feelings never stumble retracin' my steps

Before Justin Timberlake's Future Sex/Love Sounds, before Helmut Lang's art à la deconstructed disco ball, was New Order's Retro.
Here they have an impressive library of album artwork designed by Mr. Peter Saville.

Viens, viens au port comme un navire
Et tu sauras d'où repartir
Quand tu voudras t'en aller
Viens mon coeur a toujours tout donné
Je me suis bien souvent brûlée
Ah viens!
Come, come as a ship in port
And you will know where to start again
When you want to go away
Come my heart has always given everything
I often burned
But I'm not afraid to suffer
Come if I happen to lie
Because in my memories
Sleeps a wounded bird
Come to me who have already destroyed everything
Hurt so many people in my life
I no longer fear the truth
Come like a bomb exploding
I never missed
A war without entering
Come and because everything is finished
When you must go away
I can better forget
Oh come on!
One of my favorite chansons. I always feel like some sort of tragic heroine who's been done wrong when I listen to this. It somehow gives me this strange energy.

What's the deal with that get-up, Debbie?
Do you think Debbie Harry is rollerskating? I like rollerskating. Lulu and I went disco rollerskating a couple months ago. We weren't as agile on the floor as some of the attendees, who came bedecked in sequins, hotpants, and sequined hotpants.

I am currently going through a serious britpop reversion right now. Suede's songs are in every single playlist and Blur's End Of A Century—my favorite song at the moment—has an impressive playcount of 47. That's a lot!
Here's what some may call bandporn. A tasteful selection, if I may say so myself. That photo of Elastica was taken by Juergen Teller, you know.

Love this song. The floating/jumping in the sky reminds me of Ryan McGinley and Robert Longo.

I always waver back and forth between John Lennon and George Harrison as my favorite Beatle,
but Stuart Sutcliffe has a special place in my heart.

Maybe we can have alternating Nomi Sunday and Bowie Saturdays on this blog for my birthday month!
